Hanover Neighborhood Watch Alert-Ashcreek

Dear Neighborhood Watch Coordinators,

The Sheriff’s Office recently received a report from a citizen regarding a suspicious person in her neighborhood (AshCreek subdivision) that drove up in a vehicle and spoke to her child, offering the child candy. The person left the area once the child walked away from him, and the child returned to his home and told his mother. There were no other factors related to this event.

We have received several calls and emails attempting to verify the validity of this information as it has been circulated through email chains and social media. We wanted to make you aware of the incident so that the information can be shared with your neighborhood.
The information reported about children encountering strangers is a great opportunity for you and your neighbors to take a few minutes to have a talk with your own children about strangers. Please, in your conversation with your children, remind them that they should never speak with strangers and to report strangers that try to make contact with them. Children should also be reminded NEVER to go anywhere with a stranger–no matter what they want the child to do (such as look for lost pets, etc.).

It is important to remind your neighbors to continue to report ALL suspicious activity immediately to the Sheriff’s Office. It is also important to remind people to continue to be diligent in watching out for their children at all times.
